This was the view I enjoyed while taking my lunch break at Warren Lake.
It was strange seeing a lake that was this calm, just perfectly smooth. It must have been lunchtime for the fish too because before long they were jumping all over the place.
I dipped my feet in the cool water on my way back down the mountain and was tempted to swim across it. Maybe next time.
Wondering how to get here?
I arrived at Warren Lake by hiking the Starvation Ridge Trail which intersects with Mitchel Point Trail. Turn right on Mitchel Point Trail, then you’ll enter the Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness. Follow the trail which winds along the edge of the lake.
Then you come to the final stretch for the summit of Mount Defiance.
Mount Defiance is considered one of the toughest Columbia River Gorge hikes. It was certainly the hardest one I’ve done so far. But I’d like to go back and try this hike via the Mount Defiance Trail just to see how it compares to Starvation Ridge.
