When I first moved to Anchorage, Alaska I noticed this odd mountain. It stood out because it was the only mountain that didn’t rise to a jagged point. I thought, “Cool, I wonder if we can hike up it.”
After asking around, my friend and I met a co-worker at the trailhead and we hiked Flattop Mountain. This is easily the most popular hike in the Anchorage area. It’s very close to town and offers trails for all fitness levels.
We took the hardest route up which included a nice rock scramble to the summit. Then we continued on to a couple of peaks behind Flattop.
This was in June but as you can see there is still plenty of snow. Hey, it’s Alaska!
If you visit Anchorage, be sure to hike Flattop Mountain.
