On the Big Island of Hawaii, Mauna Kea reaches 13,796 feet with excellent views of the island. This volcano is the tallest mountain in the state, beating out Mauna Loa by a mere 119 feet of elevation.
In 2012, I hiked up Mauna Kea. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the top due to altitude sickness and lack of time; but I look forward to the day when I can return and reach the summit.
