Our goal was Silver Star Mountain. But…
Sometimes you aim for one trail and end up on another.
Random Hike
Bad directions and a small, horribly placed “road sign” led us to miss our target by quite a bit.
We happened upon some Washington State Corrections Officers who were watching over a work group. Of course, they didn’t know where Silver Star was either.
But they knew a couple of other places and gave us directions. It sounded promising and we couldn’t leave without getting a hike in so off we went.
The place the Officers directed us to ended up being a network of new and old logging roads connecting several big hills. Between two of the larger hills ran a wide stream.
We made the best of our random hike, as we always do.
Other than a few clear cut hillsides, the area was beautiful. After a couple of hours hiking along the old roads, enjoying the cool breeze and fresh air, we stopped for lunch.
While we relaxed, my friend broke out his travel chess set and we played a few games. My friend won all but one.
